Runes and Runewords

Runes are consumable items in this game that you can insert into the sockets of weapons and armor to add benefits. Combining specific runes, into specific gear, in a set order can result in extremely powerful gear known as Runewords. In D2RR, while there are no new types of runes, more runewords have been added, the style of runes has changed, and rune stacking is now a feature! Let's get into it!

What are runes?

Runes are powerful consumable items found from any monster (if you're lucky) that will give you the edge in fighting the endless hordes of evil. Each rune has a different ability, and that ability can change when inserted in a weapon, armor, or helmet. Only items with sockets can receive runes!

How do I use runes?

So, you have found some runes, what do you do with them? To actually gain the powers listed on the rune’s tooltip, you need a socketed piece of gear. Not all gear can receive sockets (belts, rings, amulets, gloves, and boots), but the rest can.

If you want to create sockets on your item, simply follow this recipe: **Item + # of jewels (for the # of sockets you want) in your cube** and transmute.

Warning: Keep in mind, 6 sockets is the most, and few items can even have six sockets—some may only be able to have 1! Make sure to check whether your base can have the number of sockets you want!

Now that you have something with sockets and you have your runes, there is one more step. You must ensure your runes are not stacked. You need 1 single unstacked rune to be able to insert it into an item.

Now, simply click on the rune, drag it over your item, and click again to gain the powers that rune grants on the item!

Tip: Maximize your power by saving runes to create Runewords—see the section below.

If you’ve already used runes, don’t fret! You can recover them by using this recipe: **socketed item + TP scroll** transmuted in your cube will return all the runes!

How do I stack runes?

To stack runes, follow this recipe: **3 unstacked runes transmuted in the cube = 1 stack of 3 runes**. Each stack can hold up to 10 runes at once.

If you have 1 stack of runes and find another stack, simply drag and drop one stack onto the other in your inventory, and they will combine.

Warning: Ensure you place 3 UNSTACKED runes in the cube when transmuting, as placing two unstacked runes will upgrade the rune instead!

How do I unstack runes?

To unstack a rune, put the stack in your cube and click transmute.

- If your stack had only 1 rune, you will now have an unstacked rune to use as you please. - If your stack had more than one rune, you will now have two stacks: one with a single rune and the other with the remaining runes. Remove the bigger stack, and cube the stack of 1 again to get your usable rune.

Warning: Ensure your rune is indeed a stack before transmuting, or you will downgrade the rune.

How do I upgrade a rune?

To upgrade a rune to the next level, add **two of the same UNSTACKED rune** to the cube and transmute. This will result in one rune of the next level.

How do I downgrade a rune?

To downgrade a rune, add **1 of the UNSTACKED rune** to the cube and transmute. This will result in one rune of the previous level.

What are runewords?

Runewords are powerful combinations of specific runes and items that create unique gear.

For a list of all the runewords go to this website and select the "Runewords" tab: https://www.d2r-reimagined.com/

To create a runeword, you need to insert the required runes in the **EXACT** order into the **EXACT** base item the runeword requires. See the example below.
